The Christmas party season is now upon us so we thought that we would share a few tips on how best to brew for your guests. A lot of us make our daily coffee with a single cup pour over like the Hario V60 at home, which can be a bit tricky for a crowd. Here are some helpful hints to keep your friends and family going strong right through to the Christmas pudding.
Methodology
Cafetiere - These come in a variety of sizes, most commonly 3, 8 and 12 cup variants. See our best brewing techniques here. It is important to remember when using a cafetiere, it's crucial to pour the coffee out of the cafetiere after the 4 minute brew is complete or the coffee will keep on extracting and you'll end up with coffee you can chew. That's a gift for no one.
Pour over dripper - These are great options for a small group if you have the time and free hands. You can always brew a couple of Hario V60 pots and pour them into an insulated carafe that will keep your coffee hot. For a 600ml pot use about 43 grams of coffee (about 6 level tablespoons).
Hot Not Heat
If you do have an electric coffee filter brewer with a heating plate, we recommend that you turn it off or remove the coffee from the heat so as to avoid the old stewed office coffee scenario.
Preheat your serving cups and mugs with hot water to keep your coffee from cooling down too quickly.
Pour your cafetiere or drip brewed coffee into a thermos flask or carafe. But don't keep it in there for too long.
Have a great festive speciality holiday.
